Climate Film And Documentary, quick summaries
We run regular film and discussion evenings (suspended during Covid) and have a Film Forum where we can collectively watch and discuss and debate our thoughts on various films or documentaries.
Why not join us our new online group? We pick a film. Share the link. You watch at your leisure over the course of a week or so. We all chat about the film on our forum. And then we can have a zoom chat depending on how the conversation goes.

Planet Sutherland Movie – Take One Step
How can our community move forward to help the climate? This is a wee video helping us all to firstly, understand why we are in a critical place and then following with some ideas on how to take that first step.
We hope you like this and will be encouraged to come along to one of our carbon cafes or look out for our business surveys and other community and business initiatives.
Systems Overshoot & Collapse
Our first “film” is actually a lecture from Dartmouth College from 1977. Funny that we’re still looking at the same problems today!

The Climate Race
This is a documentary film, by Paul Maple exposing the shocking truth behind much of what we’re being told about climate change. It includes interviews with academic experts and brings home how real the problem is and what we can do about it.

The Age of Stupid
This film is presented as an archivist reviewing the state of the world in 2055 and asking questions about why we humans did nothing to prevent the collapse of civilisation. Are we too stupid? Do we think we’re not worth it? Real people around the world are interviewed on topics such as clean water, lack of food, oil covered fish, newly developing cheap airlines, wind farms etc. The film was made in 2009 and depicts Sydney burning – in 2019 we are all aware of the millions of acres being destroyed by fire in Australia!!

An Inconvenient Truth
Al Gore, formed American Vice President developed his knowledge of climate issues whilst studying for his degree. This documentary pulls together the story of how he came of understand the problem and clearly presents many aspects of the problem, helping us to all understand what’s going on.
In the end, An Inconvenient Truth accomplishes what all great films should: it leaves the viewer shaken, involved and inspired.
